April Rural Visit

23 Probus members left Richmond at 9.30am and drove to Te Koi Lodge on Bronte Road. The Metcalfe's welcomed us to their beautiful home and garden overlooking Waimea Estuary. Ali and Ian both spoke of their life experiences of hospitality in NZ and overseas. We then had morning tea on their deck. Ian showed us their self-contained villas and garden that they have owned since 2017. Anyone wanting a luxury experience, stay at Te Koi lodge.

We then drove to Admirals Way on the Ruby Bay Cliffs. The owners were away, so two neighbours gladly showed us around the garden.  We walked round the large terraced garden that led down to a pond. Once again, the views looking over to Nelson were stunning. This property was in a vineyard where the vines were just starting to change colour.

From here we drove to Toad Hall in Motueka for lunch.

After lunch we drove along Motueka Valley Road crossed over to the West Bank Road and turned up to Herring Stream Road where we were welcomed by Denise and Crispin Raymond. They have a large property with native and exotic trees. We walked on their newly formed tracks in the forest that Crispin had made, he showed us what areas they had cleared which is ongoing. A tremendous job they have done in a short time that they have been there. Denise kindly showed me the fungi that was prolific in many areas to photograph. We had afternoon tea on their deck then drove home after a very interesting day that we all enjoyed. Thank you, Mary, for organizing this fantastic rural day.
