Social Climbers Lake Rotoiti Walk back from Lakehead 25 April 2019
19 of us went by 2 water taxis to the head of Lake Rotoiti on a perfect day with reflections in the lake.
On arrival at the jetty three non- walkers returned on the water taxi. Once ashore half of us went another 750mts to see Lakehead Hut and this is where we saw a Tomtit close by. We then started our walk along the lakeside track back to where we left our cars. We caught up with the rest of the group and managed to cross a stream and walk over a boulder slip area with no mishaps. The rest of the time we were in Beech forest with beautiful moss patches beside the track. After an hour and a half we found a beach beside the lake where we sat in the sun and ate our lunch.
We set off again and walked for another hour and three quarters seeing some lovely red ‘Amanita’ fungi near the track.
We all enjoyed the 10kms walk, the weather was perfect, and conditions could not have been better. It was a walk Probus members of all levels of fitness were able to enjoy. We wonder if anyone was stiff the next day.
