Alex Rutherford kindly scoped out this excellent walk up the Wither Hills. 22 hardy Social Climbers arrived at the carpark and made their way up an easy gradient through scrubby bush reminiscent of Aussie. The walk opens up onto hill country pasture and climbs gently up to the lookout. This afforded magnificent views over Cloudy Bay, Blenheim and the Wairau Valley and Mt. tapuae-o-uenuku.
We then wandered around the ridge top and after some lunch wandered down the hill back to the cars. All up it was about a 3 hour loop track. Our route is marked in red on the attached map, but the hills are covered with tracks and mountain bike tracks.
Some folks wisely took advantage of a visit to Burleigh Pies to have for dinner and to stock up the freezer. These pies are the best in the top of the South!!
We all returned to Nelson safely and without incident! A great day out,
